Our journey
Ways to Wellness is a charity that prototypes non-medical interventions to tackle health inequalities on both an individual and systemic level, sharing learning that equips the healthcare system to better meet the needs of our growing population.
Having launched in 2015 to deliver a world first for health services around the world, by using Social Impact Bond (SIB) investment paired with an outcome-driven NHS contract, we have since gone on to develop numerous prototypes in partnership with academic institutions and researchers, statutory service providers and commissioners, and other VCSE organisations, using a data-driven approach to gather and disseminate evidence regarding what works, and what doesn’t.
With expertise in creating the right environment to facilitate positive, long-term change, we are delivering on NHS priorities as set out in the 10-year plan through our test-and-learn approach, which transforms holistic, personalised care into practical, scalable solutions that address the full spectrum of social and structural determinants affecting wellbeing.
We are proud of our history and truly value our staff, who make all our achievements possible.
We are an equal opportunities employer and do not discriminate on the grounds of gender, sexual orientation, marital or civil partner status, pregnancy or maternity, gender reassignment, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, disability or age.
-
In our first eight years we worked with more than 9,800 people with long-term health conditions
-
Of 2,888 clients we supported and subsequently discharged in our first five years, 86% improved their wellbeing in at least one area
-
In our first five years, £4.6 million of cumulative costs were avoided in secondary care
Our report, ‘Ways to Wellness: The First Six Years’ explains our initial approach in more detail.
It also celebrates the impact of our foundational project, which improved the health and wellbeing of thousands of people.
